My Advice Architect® - create a proposal

  • With the launch of Envestnet®, all new Symplany accounts require a proposal in Envestnet® that is then completed in Emma
  • Note: The steps below do not cover every aspect of the account opening process, this document only covers the steps unique to opening a Symplany Pro account.
    • Symplany can only be used with Spectrum Advisor accounts
    • The paperwork process typically takes between 3 – 10 business days to complete
    • If you have multiple monitors, we recommend putting this set of instructions on one screen while moving through Envestnet® and Emma on another.

**Envestnet provides two ways to create a proposal. To view these same steps using the old format, click here.

New account paperwork (Pro)

  1. First, create a client account in Symplany Pro (to learn more, click here), then
  2. Create a proposal  in Envestnet®, and
  3. Complete the setup in Emma

Envestnet® (Pro)

** Envestnet provides two ways to create a proposal. To view these same steps using the  old  format, clic k here.

These steps do not cover every aspect of the account opening process, this only covers the steps unique to opening a Symplany Pro account.

  1. From your Envestnet desktop, click Create a⚡️Proposal
  2. Risk & Objective > Risk Tolerance > Investment Objective

The investment objective selected in Envestnet should correspond with the account's asset allocation in Symplany Pro

  3. Account Strategy > Select an existing strategy > Select a program

For all Symplany Pro accounts, select Securian Spectrum Advisor - Symplany Pro

  4. Select Investment Product > Product Name

Select the model ( HOD MAPS Core or HOD MAPS Strategic) that corresponds with the model used in Symplany Pro

  5. Fees > Edit
    1. We get a lot of questions about what to enter here. Feel free to reach out
    2. Envestnet® lets you enter the advisor fee, not the total client fee.
    3. The Symplany Pro program fee (20 bps, declining) comes out of the advisor fee.
      1. In the example below, the listed advisor fee for the first tier is 0.95%, but the displayed advisor fee (i.e. what is going to the grid) is 0.75%. Conversely, the Spectrum program fee is 0.25%, but the displayed fee (i.e. the total Symplany Pro program fee) is 0.45%.
      2. If you want help calculating your fee schedule, check out this helpful tool: Symplany Pro Fee Schedule Calculator
    4. Note: Once you've entered your fee schedule, if you plan to use this same fee schedule for other clients, you can save it as a template and avoid manually entering this information next time.
  6. Summary
    1. Click Generate documents
    2. Click Launch to Securian to complete the remaining steps in Emma

Emma (Pro)

  • Once you have generated the proposal in Envestnet®, you will be directed to Emma to complete your paperwork process.
  • Again, these steps do not cover every aspect of the account opening process in Emma, this only covers the steps unique to opening a Symplany Pro account.
  1. Create new > Application

  2. MAPS > Investment objective
The investment objective should correspond with the model found in Symplany Pro

  3. Profile > Allocation strategy

    • Allocation strategy = Custom
    • Is this a Symplany Pro account? = Yes
  4. Review and submit > Manual upload

A copy of the Symplany Pro client printout must be attached before submitting to Securian.

The client printout can be found on the client's Overview page (for active portfolios this button is located on the left side of the screen, for draft portfolios this button is on the right side)

This completes the steps to open a new account that are unique to Symplany Pro.

Once you've submitted your Emma forms, you can expect your new account to show up in 3-10 business days.
